What a Great Year It Has Been

As December arrives and the year begins to slow down, I find myself reflecting with so much gratitude on everything this past year has held. When I look back, one thing is clear: this year was filled with growth, movement, community, and so many moments that reminded me why I love teaching wellness.
One of the biggest highlights of the year was teaching yoga at LA Fitness twice a week for eight months. Showing up consistently, week after week, allowed me to build meaningful connections with students and witness real progress—not just in physical strength and flexibility, but in confidence, consistency, and self-care. There is something incredibly grounding about being part of someone’s routine, knowing that your class is a space they rely on to reset and recharge.
This year also brought opportunities to step outside of my regular teaching schedule and into the wider fitness community here in Austin. Participating in a Zumba Master Class was a standout experience. The energy, music, and collective joy in that room were unforgettable. It was a powerful reminder that movement doesn’t always have to be quiet or introspective—it can be loud, playful, and full of celebration. Experiences like that reignite creativity and keep teaching fresh and inspired.
Stepping into that environment has expanded my teaching in exciting ways. I’ve had the opportunity to guide students through yoga, Silver Sneakers, Zumba, and Barre—each format offering something unique. Teaching across modalities has pushed me to grow as an instructor, adapt to different bodies and needs, and meet people exactly where they are. Whether it’s a calming yoga flow, an empowering barre class, or an upbeat Zumba session, the goal is always the same: help people feel stronger, more capable, and more at home in their bodies.
Beyond gyms and studios, I’ve also had the joy of teaching at various apartment complexes throughout the Austin area. Bringing movement directly into people’s living spaces creates a special kind of community. These classes often feel more personal, more relaxed, and deeply connected. Watching neighbors become classmates—and sometimes friends—has been one of the most rewarding parts of the year.
As I close out this year, I’m feeling incredibly thankful. Thankful for every early morning class, every playlist made, every cue refined, and every student who showed up. Thankful for the opportunities that stretched me and the communities that welcomed me.
This year reinforced something I already knew but needed to experience fully: movement changes lives, and teaching is a privilege. I’m heading into the new year energized, inspired, and ready for whatever comes next.
Here’s to growth, gratitude, and another year of moving together. -Mina |
