A Mental Health Reset at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your mental health is step away from routine, responsibilities, and constant productivity. As much as I love teaching yoga and building Yoga ATX, I’ve learned that rest and joy are just as important as discipline. On May 30, I gave myself permission to fully unplug and embrace play during a visit to Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando.
There’s something healing about allowing yourself to be immersed in an environment built around imagination and storytelling. From the moment I walked into the park, I felt lighter. No schedule to teach. No emails to answer. No pressure to constantly be productive. Just a day to experience wonder.
The morning started with breakfast at Hollywood & Vine, where Minnie Mouse and friends made appearances throughout the restaurant. It might sound simple, but there was something genuinely uplifting about the energy in the room. Families laughing together, music playing, characters dancing between tables—it reminded me how important joy and connection are for emotional wellness. As adults, we often forget how restorative fun can be.
Breakfast itself felt like comfort and celebration combined. Instead of rushing through coffee while multitasking, I slowed down and enjoyed the experience. That alone felt therapeutic. Mental health breaks do not always have to look like silent retreats or perfectly curated self-care routines. Sometimes they look like pancakes, laughter, and taking photos with Mickey Mouse.
One of my favorite parts of the day was exploring “Star Wars land,” also known as Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Even if you are not a huge Star Wars fan, the detail and creativity in that area are incredible. Walking through the marketplace, hearing the sounds of spaceships overhead, and seeing the architecture made it feel like stepping into another world entirely. That kind of immersion has a way of pulling you out of anxious thoughts and back into the present moment.
As someone who spends a lot of time focused on wellness, movement, and personal growth, I think we sometimes underestimate the value of mental escape. Our brains need novelty. They need play. They need moments where we are not constantly thinking about the next task or goal. Visiting Disney reminded me that experiencing awe and excitement is part of wellness too.
The night ended with Fantasmic!, one of Disney’s most iconic nighttime shows. Watching the lights reflect across the water, hearing the music, and seeing the combination of storytelling, fireworks, and imagination felt emotional in the best way. There was a moment during the show where I stopped thinking entirely and simply allowed myself to experience it. That feeling—being fully present—is something we strive for constantly in yoga and meditation.
This trip was more than a vacation day. It was a reminder that mental health care can include adventure, laughter, creativity, and childlike wonder. Sometimes healing looks like slowing down. Sometimes it looks like movement. And sometimes, it looks like spending a day at Disney with Mickey Mouse, Star Wars, and a little bit of magic.
